Elisam Magara is a Professor at the Department of Records and Archives Management, East African School of Library and Information Science (EASLIS), College of Computing and Information Sciences (COCIS), Makerere University, where he has served from1997 to present. Previously, Magara worked as a College Librarian, National College of Business Studies now Makerere University Business School—MUBS (1993-1997). Magara also served as a Director of EASLIS (2006-2010), a President, Uganda Library andInformation Association (ULIA) (1999-2008) and a member of the Committee on Copyright and Legal Matters (CLM) of the International Federation of Library Association and Institutions (IFLA) (2003-2007). Magara exhibits 30 years of professional, technical and professional expertise punctuated by public policy engagement, knowledge management consultancy and advisory services, knowledge transfer, international collaborative research and scholarship, and library and information science professional engagement and promotion.
Magara holds a Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS), Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Science(PGDCS), Masters in Information Science (MSc Inf. Sc.) from Makerere University, PhD in Information Science (University of South Africa) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Theology (African International University, Kenya), 2020. Magara is an academic and nonfiction author in international journals, books and book chapters with over 40 titles in information management, library and information science, archiving, documentary heritage, indigenous knowledge management and Career development and guidance.
Magara served as a Member of the Information and Communication Committee of UNATCOM (2007-2018) and Interim Chairman of the National Memory of World Committee (2012 ro 2018. Magara now serves as a Vice President (Training and Registers), African Chapter, Memory of the World Committee (ARCMOW) and a Member of Education and Research Sub-Committee of the Memory of the World Programme Africa Working Group (SCEaR WGA). Currently, Magara is the Chairman on the National Committee, Development of the Uganda National Research Journal Repository Platform at the Uganda National Council of Science and Technology (UNCST) and the Chairperson, Uganda Textbook-Academic and Non-Fiction Authors Association (UTANA).
